Student eligibility / Application procedures

The field courses associated with the Costa Rica trip have no pre-requisites, so students from all majors and academic backgrounds can go! 

To be eligible to go to Costa Rica with us, you must:

1) Be a Saddleback College or Irvine Valley College (IVC) student during summer 2019

  • If you are registered at Saddleback College or IVC during spring 2019, you are automatically an active student

 

  • If you’ve never taken classes at Saddleback College or Irvine Valley college as a college studentyou must apply for admissions. 
    • If you are applying for admissions for Summer 2019 on or before February 1, go here or here (either application processes will work)
    • If you are applying for admissions for Summer 2019 after February 1, go here (you must apply through the Emeritus Institute)

 

  • If you are a returning studentyou've previously attended Saddleback or Irvine Valley College but have missed one main semester (spring or fall) or more - you must apply for admission to be assigned a registration appointment.
    • If you are applying for admissions for Summer 2019 on or before February 1, go here or here (either application processes will work)
    • If you are applying for admissions for Summer 2019 after February 1, go here (you must apply through the Emeritus Institute)

 

2) Contact Professor Bruno Passarelli (bpassarelli@saddleback.edu) or Dr. Marcelo Pires (mpires@saddleback.edu) to express your interest, be included in our mailing list, schedule an in-person meeting, and receive all necessary information. Informational meetings will also be announced from January - April 2019. 

 

3) Enroll in both Bio 230 (Coastal Ecosystems Field Studies, 1 unit) and Bio 235 (Extended Mountain Ecosystem Field Studies, 2 units). You will receive registration instructions after meeting with Professor Passarelli or Dr. Pires.

 

4) Register at the AIFS registration online page. You will receive the link to this registration page upon meeting with Professor Passarelli or Dr. Pires. 

The deadline to apply is April 19, 2019

 

Note:

  • There will be one mandatory meeting on-campus prior to our departure date, likely on a Saturday in early-mid July (date and time will be announced in mid-April).
  • Trip dates are July 29 - August 11.
  • There will be no additional on-campus meetings before or after the trip.
