Marcelo N. Pires, Ph.D. has been teaching at Saddleback College since Fall 2008. He earned a B.Sc. and a M.Sc. in Biology at Cal Poly, Pomona, and a Ph.D. in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at UC Riverside. His research focuses on reproductive biology, with emphasis on the evolution of reproductive adaptations in fishes. At Saddleback College, he has taught General Biology I (Bio 3A/3AH), General Biology II (Bio 3B/3BH), General Biology for non-bio majors (Bio 20), Animal Behavior (Bio 43), Evolution (Bio 40), Human Evolution (Bio 40), Human Biology (Bio 30), Human Anatomy (Bio 11/110), and Human Physiology (Bio 12/120). He has also coordinated a long-term research program for undergraduate students (Bio 49/Bio 50). Finally, he has taught, with Professor Passarelli, a study abroad field studies program in Brazil (Bio 230, Bio 231, or Bio 234) during three consecutive summers (2015-17) and a recent field studies program in Costa Rica (2019). He is currently teaching General Biology (Bio 3BH) and Human Physiology (Bio 12/120).

Professor Bruno Passarelli has been teaching at Saddleback College since Fall 2011. His academic background includes an A.A. in General Science from Santa Monica College, a B.S. in Marine Biology and a M.S. in Biology, both from CSULB. His graduate research focused on investigating the marine live bait trade in California as a potential vector for the introduction of non-indigenous species. He is currently an Adjunct Research Scientist at Cabrillo Marine Aquarium, in San Pedro, CA, and a Ph.D. candidate at UCLA with a research focus on marine parasitology. At Saddleback College, he has taught Southern California Coastal Ecology (Marine Science 4), Introduction to Oceanography (Marine Science 20), Human Anatomy (Biology 11), Marine Biology (Biology 19), and Introduction to Biology (Biology 20). He has also taught Field Studies courses in Brazil and Costa Rica for four years with Dr. Pires. Currently, he is teaching Marine Biology (Biology 19) and Human Anatomy (Biology 11).
